OCT 6:The Festival of
Bands USA features a very full day of marching activities for a large
lineup of bands from South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming.
This 20th year of competition is expected to draw up to 10,000 visitors
and competing band members. The lineup of 41 bands on parade and 29 bands
in field prelims is the largest number of bands ever to appear at the
Festival. The top 10 field bands advance to the evening field finals.
OCT 6: Rosemount H.S. earned top
honors at the
Champlin Park Rebel Classic.
-The Champlin Park Marching Rebels invite you to join the 15th Annual
Rebel Classic Invitational Field Show Competition. Featuring many elite
regional bands, the Rebel Classic is divided into classes by both school
size and band size and will be judged by the Tri-State Judges Association.
Note that beginning in 2007, the Rebel Classic will be held annually on
the first Saturday in October. This is a change from the previous
tradition of holding the event in early September. Trophies are presented
for all places in each class. Caption awards are presented in each class
to the outstanding percussion, color guard, winds, and drum majors. By
participating in the Rebel Classic, you will be part of an evening of
sights and sounds from many highly dedicated and committed young
musicians.

opportunity to be part of this exciting field show event.
Oct. 20: Quad State Marching Competition
Held in the climate-controlled Dakota Dome on the University of
South Dakota campus, Quad State attracts bands from Nebraska, Iowa, South
Dakota and Minnesota. The majority of competitive field bands from the
region attend, and the lineup annually features 20-30 bands. The contest
is hosted by the USD Department of Music and the University Band Program.
Oct. 27: Youth In Music Championships-Two
years ago the Youth In Music Championships were just a dream and an idea.
In those two years the YIM Championships have grown from 9 to 15 bands and
1,400 to 4,000 in attendance. The YIM Championships have quickly become
one of the premier marching band events in the Midwest.
For 2007 the event promises to be even bigger and better, with more bands,
more fans, and more of the little things that make the YIM Championships
unique. The 2007 event will feature up to 25 bands
The Bands of America Grand National Championships is recognized as the
premier marching band event in the nation. Ninety bands from across
America will participate, including some of the finest, most progressive
bands in the activity today.
The field competition features 90 bands in Preliminary competition on
Thursday and Friday, with 30 bands advancing to Semi-Finals during the day
on Saturday. Twelve bands advance to Finals on Saturday evening.
The event also includes an Expo, Student Leadership Workshop with Dr. Tim
Lautzenheiser, Celebrate America!, the Indianapolis Public Schools
Marching Band Tournament and other special events and clinics.

A new independent film delivers an
emotional, insightful look into the student marching band experience.
The documentary From The 50 Yard Line is currently touring film
festivals and will hopefully obtain broader theatrical and DVD
distribution in the future.
